A dog has 28 deciduous (baby) teeth that are replaced by 42 permanent adult teeth between 2-7 months of age. The front teeth are incisors that are for grasping food, canines for tearing food and premolars and molars for grinding food into smaller pieces that can be swallowed

Retained canine tooth: Baby canine tooth that was not lost and is stuck. If your dog’s tooth becomes retained it causes crowded, and plaque build up from food getting stuck. Frequently this tooth is pulled during a spay or neuter by your veterinarian. If your adult dog has a retained canine still, not much to do but wait until your dog needs a dental cleaning and then your veterinarian can make the decision to extract the tooth or not.

Adult teeth will come in completely around month 7-8

You cannot stop puppy chewing, puppies chew to explore the world, to figure out things like a baby would, to relieve boredom and to also soothe their pain when teething. Do not try to stop it but give the dog appropriate things to chew on.
Damp rag/Freeze it or Ice cubes: The coolness soothes and numbs the pain while the dog chews on it.
chew toys which we talked about in our toys episode, and CET Chews.
CET Chews help clean your dog’s teeth with the cleaning agent chlorhexidine
We also gave really good tips using kongs last week so check that out that would be great for a teething puppy.

It’s very important to clean your pets teeth with something everyday! I know it may be hard to brush your dogs teeth weather it be he just won’t let you or you don’t have enough time in the day to devote to it. I WILL SAY we will be having an amazing episode on brushing teeth very soon I don’t want you to miss it. Make sure to try and give your dog a dental chew like these CET chews. Chew toys are not only great for teething and keeping an adult dog occupied but it can also help with your dog’s dental hygiene. That constant chewing on things like CET chews, and hard surfaces with any of the items we’ve shown you in this video will push that tartar off the teeth helping your dog avoid build up. We have a whole episode on how to train your dog to let you brush their teeth in a couple weeks so please check back for that episode.

Might be a dumb question but why would any animal have the need for a toothbrush? Unless you feed it sugar that is.

Hey love! A Maltese would be considered the Small group for most toys. Always check on the label of the packaging for the different sizes for different breeds. Most of the time it lists a variety of breeds in the different categories so you know which size to get.

You are correct that you probably need the same size as myself.

CET for petite dogs (30 chews)
    Extra Small Hide a squirrel
    Small puppy knog

    Hope I helped!!!

Hi Faris, could you please tell the size of the CET chews you show in the video. I was also wondering if you could tell me the size of "squirrel on tree" toy and the size of the pink kong. I have a 8 wk old maltese and would like to buy some of the things you mentioned in your videos. Thank you very much
